SEQUOIA
A LANDSCAPE SHORT FILM – COMING SOON!
This project acknowledges the rightful homelands of the Mono (Monache), Yokuts, Tübatulabal, Paiute, and Western Shoshone People.
IN PRODUCTION
Through time lapse and realtime cinematography, this project celebrates Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park in a way most don’t experience it, after dark. This is a region known for its profound beauty, protecting some of the oldest living beings on the planet, and hosts nearly 2 million visitors annually.
DESCRIPTION
In a time of tension, we are all exhausted and need to feel something besides fear, anger, or despair. As a counter, this film is a creative exercise with the intent to inspire awe in the viewer.
Filmed over the course of 6 months, this 10 minute short frames the passage of time and light in the foothills and highlands of Sequoia. Paradoxically while time in the frame is compressed, the process of making the frame requires slowing down, patient observation, contemplation, and intuition of natural cycles leading to a deeper appreciation of place in the environment.
It has to be mentioned that this year (2025) Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park saw record attendance while operating at a 45% staffing shortage due to political action by the current Administration, before the longest government shut down in American history. This shut down has effected over 1 million government employees, many of those who work to support some of the oldest colonially protected landscapes like Sequoia.
SUPPORT THE NEXT PROJECT
Creatively this project was an exercise in refining the time lapse process, before developing a feature length film in the visual heritage of Baraka. I am seeking financial, logistical, and equipment support. PLEASE REACH OUT!
